State to sell surplus vehicles in online auction

Sacramento Business Journal - by Michael Shaw Staff writer

The California Department of General Services said Friday it is auctioning 50 vehicles online, the largest auction of that type the department has held. The auction runs until Wednesday and participants must register with the site in order to bid.

The auction is one of a series planned after Gov. Schwarzenegger in August ordered state agencies to cut vehicle fleets by 15 percent. The department has since has sold 1,500 vehicles and expects to sell 2,000 more this year.

The online auction format supplements, but does not replace, existing live auctions held monthly in Davis.

Vehicle models range widely from late model 1970s to early 2000 vans, pickups, midsize and small cars.

All transactions will take place online. Chevy Cavaliers, including bio-fuel Cavaliers, Ford Trucks, Ford Focuses, Honda Civics and Chevy Astro Vans are among the many models up for sale.

The auction site can be found here.
