McAfee, Symantec settle with NY AG

Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

McAfee Inc. and Symantec Corp. will pay a combined $750,000 to settle complaints from the New York Attorney General's office about subscription renewal confusion.

Santa Clara-based McAfee (NYSE:MFE) and Cupertino-based Symantec (NASDAQ:SYMC) said they will also more clearly explain terms of subscription renewals.

New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo had complained that the computer security companies renewed some subscriptions without customers' knowledge.

The companies will each pay $375,000 in costs and penalties.
